Contact Lens Exams
Many patients ask "Why do I have to have a contact lens exam every year? I see fine with my contacts". Dr. Muir has to take additional time to determine whether or not your contact lenses are fitting properly, evaluate the cornea for any abnormalities or changes, evaluate the need for possibly changing into a better material for your eye health, discussing new contact lens technology with you, ensuring the contact lens prescription is still adequate (this prescription is different than your glasses prescription), as well as any additional follow up visits to ensure the right contact lenses for your eyes (if needed). There are different levels of contact lens examinations, depending on the complexity of the prescription and the lens indicated. Contact lens prescriptions, once finalized, are good for one year from the date the prescription was finalized, which is a national law. This is to protect your eyes from the risk of wearing contact lenses, which are medical devices.
